I’ve been watching the market for car GPS units for several years. Never could pull the trigger because the cost/benefit was always too high. Finally, there seems to be a set of new models from several manufacturers that allow sub-$200 prices. These units do everything I need. After some internet checks, I bought the Magellan 3100, and in its first day of trial, I am loving it. Advantages include small size, internal battery, fast & accurate satellite fix, good re-routing, very nice mounting system. Just flat out works. The only thing I could get with greater investment would be frills. I feel I am really missing NOTHING with this model. (Don’t need fancier speech, bluetooth, big screen etc). So my conclusion: strong buy recommendation.
Everything you need in an auto GPS
I borrowed the Magellan Maestro 3100 and found it to be a great auto GPS. It has all the features you need in an auto navigation system. Because it has none of the extraneous features unnecessary in an auto GPS, the price is a deal. Magellan got it right with the Maestro. – By Charles Marsh
Best buy for new users
I bought for a trip from Texas to New England and several locations in between on a month trip and never had a problem getting there or finding the next stop. Great GPS for the newbie or one not wanting to spend alot on something they won’t use much. Great price if you look around right now. Friends I know have all gone out and gotten a 3100. – By R. Lamar
Excellent value for the money.
I bought this unit on a Black Friday sale for $150 after extensive research and I was actually going to return it based on a review which said the 3100’s maps cannot be updated. I contacted Magellan support and found out that this is false. The maps can be updated to a current version, and the device comes with a USB cord. This is not a throw-away unit. If you’re looking for Canada, Mexico, HI, AK, etc. and if text-to-speech is a must, then avoid this unit. If you’re looking for a basic value-priced GPS for the contiguous 48 states, look no further. It does what it’s supposed to do….navigate you from point A to point B; provide detours and directions. - By Ronald Devito

Seems that a number of villages in the English countryside are being overrun by errant trans-European trucks which are regularly misdirected by their GPS satnav systems onto roads that were better suited for horse-drawn carriages than big, long-distance trucks. I got a 3225 for Christmas. It freezes up when calculating a route. The startup screen also occasionally freezes up. Have to hit the reset button often to get to the main screen. What a piece of junk. Itâ??s going back to the store.

The Magellan Maestro 3200 line is the slimming update to the Maestro 3100 line that has been out for a while. The 265WT is (literally) THE way to go! It’s an easy-to-use GPS. It has voice turn-by-turn instructions (including street names), free FM traffic for life!, and hands-free Bluetooth capability. The graphics are great too. The antenna is built in and very sensitive.
The FM traffic is a great feature, and unlike other models, it’s free for life with the 265WT. While commuting, I can easily see where traffic is congested or stopped, and my Nuvi 265WT routes me around it. Isn’t technology great!
